Adam Riemann has never been one to sugar-coat his opinion, and he’s been guilty of mocking the Kawasaki KLR 650, but after 11-days and 7000km across Australia, he has fallen in love with this Adventure stalwart and is totally impressed with her off-road capabilities. In Why I’m Buying a KLR 650, the Motology Films creator sets the record straight after putting the bike through one of the toughest tests imaginable.
What began as a practical choice for a cross-country ride quickly turned into a full-blown respect story. From high-speed corrugated desert tracks to soft sand and steep rocky climbs, the KLR 650 Adventure proved itself not just capable, but seriously impressive. It handled the brutal terrain with ease, never missed a beat, and needed nothing more than fuel and a fresh rear tyre.
In a motorcycle industry obsessed with power, tech, and spec sheets, the KLR 650 flies under the radar, but that’s exactly its strength. This episode shows how a simple, reliable bike can outperform expectations when it really counts. Off-road ABS, a rugged steel tank, quality wheels, and warhorse durability, Adam has dubbed the KLR the “Desert Donkey”, which has quietly earned his admiration with every passing kilometre.
So much so, he walked into a dealership and bought one at full retail.
For riders chasing authentic adventure without the pricetag, the KLR 650 might just be the unsung hero they’ve been overlooking. No frills, no fuss, just a bike that gets the job done. Watch the full story below and see why Adam is now proud to call himself a KLR rider.

Now you can survive the apocalypse 🤣
You don’t know WHEN you get there but you know you WILL get there. Isn’t it what the adventure is all about?
Adam, I’ve been looking to get back into motorbiking after a couple decades and was decided to get a KLR, but after watching your Africa Twin series, I fell back in love with carbureted bikes with zero bells or whistles. So now deciding between DR650 and XR650. It will have to be one of these big thumpers, for budget reasons. Neither has been upgraded in the last 30 years by Suzuki or Honda.
Your channel has motivated me to take a riding course, dust off old skills, get a bike, work on it, ride it, camp from it, travel light, see the country (US is big enough), learn how to have fun even when completely miserable stuck in a mud hole somewhere. That’s an inseparable part of the adventure, because those worst days will become the best and unforgettable memories to tell over campfire one day.
You’ve inspired me to get one too! Deposit has been paid. Will be my first bike in 20 years, last bike was a KDX250 2 stroke. I can’t wait!
